18-year-old UC Merced student arrested, this is why

An 18-year-old UC Merced student was arrested Monday afternoon by UC Merced Police.

Sebastian Barajas suspected of a sexual battery at UC Merced was taken into custody by UC Merced Police officers.

The incident occurred on the northerly side of campus, assistant Vice-Chancellor Jim Chiavelli II, told Merced Golden Wire News.

 

The victims called campus police to report it, and after an expeditious investigation, officers arrested the student without incident.

Authorities say the incident appears to have been isolated in time and space but urge anyone with any information to call UC Merced Police at 209-228-2677.

UC Merced campus issued him an order, prohibiting him from coming to campus or contacting the victims.

Barajas was booked into the Merced County jail on sexual battery and false imprisonment charges, his bail on all charges amounted to $25,000,
