Merced Police have arrested a man on Homicide charges.

A Merced police officer on-viewed a fight in progress Thursday night at around 11:45 p.m. in the 1500 block of R Street.

Officer Sauceda observed McRae fleeing the scene of the fight. Sauceda was able to catch up to McRae and detain him for further investigation.

Additional officers responded to the area and located a 40-year-old male victim, unconscious a block away. The victim sustained a stab wound to the chest and succumbed to his injuries on scene.

Detectives are attempting to determine the motive for the assault. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification to the family.

McRae was booked at the Merced County Jail for homicide.
