Man arrested after leaving scene of collision in Merced

Officers arrested a man who left the scene of a collision, the crash happened outside the Merced County Fire Department.

Officers responded to the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Way and West 8th Street at around 6:11 Monday night and learned one of the drivers fled the scene on foot.

Officer Richter arrived to investigate and learned from a witness that 26-year-old Jesus Reyes-Garcia was the responsible who left the scene.

While conducting the collision investigation the Bluetooth activated to the vehicle, this led Officer Richter to check around the immediate area for Reyes-Garcia.

 

The suspect was located and initially lied about his name. Reyes-Garcia showed obvious signs of being intoxicated. Reyes-Garcia was arrested for DUI.

During a search of his vehicle, a loaded 9mm handgun was located under his seat. Reyes-Garcia was booked into the county jail for DUI and possessing a concealed firearm.
