Two flown to hospitals after crashing into a tree in Merced

Two people were flown to hospitals after crashing into a tree in Merced.

Officers responded to the area of East Santa Fe and 5th Avenue at around 6:28 p.m. for reports of a collision.

Police say, the driver and passenger were both in their 20’s and flown to local trauma hospitals. The identity of the drivers remains unknown, one was in critical condition the Merced police department said in a press release.

Authorities say the vehicle was traveling on East Santa Fe Avenue when the vehicle struck a large tree. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.

It remains unknown if alcohol or drugs was a factor in this collision.
