Merced Police arrested 26-year-old Jose Luis Nava Monday morning and is being accused for an armed robbery that occurred at Chase Bank.
On May 1st, 2023, at 7:09 AM, officers responded to Chase Bank at 800 West Olive Avenue for an armed robbery at the ATM for a report of a man who pointed a firearm at a victim and demanded money.
Authorities say the victim complied and Nava fled on a bicycle on Olivewood Drive.
At around 7:11 AM, Sergeant Brian Rinder saw a bicyclist matching Nava’s description headed south on M Street. Nava fled from officers and was apprehended near the 2500 block of K Street.
During Nava’s apprehension, a black firearm was removed from his pants. It was later determined to be a BB gun.
Nava was positively identified as the suspect. He was booked into custody at the Merced County Jail for armed robbery. The victim’s money was recovered at the jail. It was hidden inside Nava’s underwear.
