Woman hit and killed by train in Merced identified

A woman who was hit and killed by a train in Merced was identified by the Merced Sheriff coroner’s office as 51-year-old Susan Serena, public information Deputy Allen told Merced GW News.

Merced Police say a woman was hit and killed early Sunday morning by a train.

Officers responded to the area of V street and West 16th at around 10:00 a.m., for reports of a train versus pedestrian.

When officers arrived, they located a woman deceased.

Authorities say the train conductor saw the woman looking through binoculars and was warned multiple times to move.

Police say the woman was sideswiped by the train and died at the scene. Officers say the conductor was shaken up and was being cooperative with officers.

Merced Police says it does not appear to have been a suicide.
