On May 16, 2019, at approximately 3:35 am, Merced California Highway Patrol Office received calls of a big rig versus a pole in the area of northbound SR 99 south of Westside Boulevard.
Officers arrived at the scene and determined that it was a solo vehicle collision with no injuries.
It was determined that Ravinder Paul Thapar 58-year-old out of Fresno was driving a 2013 Kenworth semi truck hauling 65000 lbs of organic apple juice.
For unknown reasons, Thapar allowed the semi truck to drift onto the right shoulder of SR 99 south of Westside Boulevard.
The Big Rig and trailer collided with the guard-rail and the sign pole on the east shoulder of SR 99.
According to public information officer Zuniga, the #3 lane will remain closed until approximately 2:00 pm for vehicle recovery and repairs.
Motorist traveling through the area should expect traffic or find an alternate route.
